I’m writing from Silver Spring, MD where I’m happily indulging one of my passions: Turkish Romany Dance with my friend/teacher Artemis Mourat. I’m surrounded by interesting women from all over the world: China, Canada, Turkey and the US. We all have one thing in common: an intense love for Turkish music and dance. It’s an experience that truly lends itself to the addage that art brings people together and creates an unbreakable bond. We share something that bridges all gaps and we share physically and spiritually. It’s just like the good times you’ll have with friends this weekend, sharing good times with great music and good food!
Enjoy another fabulous recipe from chef Kevin Keith Burns. Anything that’s caught in water – Kevin makes it delicous! And I’m happy to say, he’s a very enthusiastic community supporter and contributor to the blog and I’d like to take a moment to thank Kevin for his support and kindness and of course…the great recipes! Thank you Kevin!
Kevin’s Kingfish Roll UpsThe best ever kingfish recipe that I have ever created is :
Take a bottle of Italian Dressing, raspberry walnut vinagarette dressing (about a cup of each) , 1/4 cup of maraschino cherry juice, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, I tablespoon of creole seasoning, 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Allow this to soak overnight in a ziplock in the fridge.
Take a package of bacon ( I like a thicker cut maple flavor bacon) , cut the package in half. Take 1/2 slice and fan it out with a butter knife – flattening the slice out. Take a chunk of the marinated kingfish and place it down on the bacon. Take either a sliver of pickled jalepeno, red onion, or even banana pepper on top of the kingfish and then roll up the fish and veggie with the bacon. Stab it with either a toothpick or longer wooden skewer. On the skewer you can put at least 5 or 6 roll ups. Once you have made all of your roll ups, sprinkle them with creole seasoning. Place on your BBQ pit and smoke until the bacon is browned and done. Best kingfish that I have ever eaten. I made these at one of my beach bash gatherings and everyone who had them said they couldn’t believe it was kingfish. Kingfish usually has a strong, oily taste to it. Not this recipe. They were eating these roll ups like they were candy !
And another on the scene shot and band review from our beloved Pachomp! Electic Soul recently. They play at Pier 30 every first Friday of each month.
Pachomp’s review of Electric Soul Band:
This past weekend didn’t disappoint on the live music front! I caught some classic rock by the Electric Soul Band out at Pier 30 on Friday night. The unique thing about this band is that the lead singer, JoAnn Santana, is female, but that doesn’t limit their set list to only female rock songs, like you would think. Her voice was is edgy enough to kill an a cappella version of Janis Joplin’s ”Me and Bobby McGee” and, also, ranges low enough to nail “Can’t You See” by Marshall Tucker Band. I really enjoy that a female voice is taking on songs that girl’s aren’t meant to sing. Way to go, JoAnn! The place was packed with young and old alike and everybody was singing along by the last set.
Thank you Pachomp! You Rock!
