I met Corey Bridges (drummer for The Joey Mares Band) the way I meet alot of folks these days: on Facebook. In addition to being an amazing drummer that drives The Joey Mares sound, he’s as astute online networker. We built a cyber reltionship that led to an interview with them Last Friday at The Venue in Freeport.
On their first break, The Joey Mares Band sat down with me and confessed that each of them were sick and hadn’t been able to keep anything ‘down’ all day. Surprised the heck out of me, not just because they were relaxed, engaging, and funny/funny/funny but their tempo and showmanship never faltered.
Another very pleasant surprise: Song choices, crowd response, excellent audience engagement, plans to create more original work and if they’re anything like the ones I heard Friday night, the Joey Mares Band has a nice, long career ahead of them and I’m a fan.
My m.o. is to interview a band, and disperse live music into the final edit. I enjoy this part of the process immensely but I specially enjoyed it with The Joey Mares Band. Their comraderie is filled with humor and teasing. Their personalities are complementary and their chemistry is very effective onstage and off. Joey’s a diplomatic leader, I could imagine when things get tough, they ride the steady wave of Leon Faulkner’s easy going humor, rely on Corey Bridges perfect sense of timing to keep the band together on stage.
At the end of the interview I added a few clips of audience response. They LOVED The Joey Mares band! During the break, one woman came to Corey and said she’d seen the band on Facebook and drove from Sweeney to check them out and she was very glad she did!
All of The Joey Mares Band’s songs I filmed that night are available on Jen the Music Maven’s YouTube Channel. The video has several snippets in it but you need to check out the full meal deal, too.
The Joey Mares band will be appearing at the Brazoria County Fair along with lots of other talented acts. Say hello to Joey and the boys if you see them at the fair. They are a friendly, unassuming, talented and driven bunch of guys.
