Welcome to the Weekend On the
Brazos! Our music scene is buzzzzzzzzzzzing this weekend and not just because of The Great Texas Mosquito Festival! My calendar is expanding each week; I’m discovering lots of new places and artists and meeting so many groovy people along the way! Hope I get to see you out on the town soon!
Don’t you think Corky’s a good candidate for the Mosquito Legs Contest?!
BTW: In my ongoing efforts to keep our local music scene lively, I created a survey and sent it out to many of you. You can also go to my Facebook page: and complete it there. I’ll be discussing results with local bands and venue owners so we can keep our music lovers happy J
One of the wonderful things about blogging and social media is that it gives me a chance to bring music and video to you. On my calendar I embed links to venues and artists. If the artist has an online site that provides music, I post that link so you can hear them. It’s vital to the career of independent artists to take full advantage of the power of social media. A newspaper doesn’t provide us with the interactive experience of the web…I can’t hear a band’s music, watch them perform live or get an inside view (and friends opinions) of venues in a newspaper. But, I can go to any Facebook page and see what fans are saying about venues and bands, view videos, pics and hear the music. I can see who’s ‘checking in’, and what’s going on in the future. The more information a Facebook page (and website) provide, the better. Ever been to an artist or venue site on Facebook that has no music, no description, no pics and no interaction with fans? It doesn’t really generate excitement, does it? If you’re an artist or venue owner, I can set your Facebook page up with applications that play music, videos, send out event invitations, and integrate with 4 square to get the most out of social networking ‘check-in’ apps. I also provide websites, storefronts, all social networking hot spots (twitter, YouTube, etc.). Click here to see the specials I offer for July:
All setups come with a consultation and written guide about using the apps and I’m here if you need me! Sign up for my email newsletter you’ll get nifty updates and info about using social media and the internet for maximum benefit. You can also sign up for blog and newsletter through my fave way: RSS.
The mission for Jen on the Brazos: help the music scene on The Brazos grow and prosper – social media can provide us with the tools we need to get to know each other better…spread the good word about music in our area, and create prosperity for the musicians and venue owners who give us more of the music we love!
This weekend: The GREAT Texas Mosquito Festival is realizing its mission to bring great music to our area (its original intent) by bringing in country singer Pat Green (from
). I’ll be at the show filming and snapping shots of Pat, the Pirates and Charlie Lucas and the crowd to share with you later – see you there! Oh – if you see me struggling with my grandkids at the Mosquito Fest…feel free to give me a hand J Austin
Enjoy one of my fave Pat Green tunes:
And his popular: Wave on Wave
Popular locals: Intercoastal Pirates will be performing Saturday at 6:30. Found this little gem on YouTube – damn these guys sound good!
The Charlie Lucas Band will be servin’ up the Whiskey between the Pirates and Pat Green:
